CENTER DESCRIPTION
The Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida) was founded in 2004 as a joint body between the University of Lleida (UdL) and the public health system of the region (ICS-Lleida), which comprises more than 500,000 inhabitants.
IRB Lleida hosts about 300 researchers, including basic research and professionals involved in clinical assistance and/or in expert teaching in Medicine, Nursing, Biomedicine, Biotechnology and Human Nutrition & Dietetics at the UdL.

IRBLleida is composed of biomedical research groups covering all three aspects of biomedical search: the basic, the translational and the clinical epidemiological research. We count with two dedicated buildings (4000m2 each) located in the campus of the Hospital Arnau de Vilanova, other research units scattered around the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lleida, the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital and the Santa Maria Hospital, and a new state-of-art complex designed to maximize the research and training experience of interventional skills.

IRBLleida also interacts with other research centers of the Lleida area, such as the Lleida Agri-food Science and Technology Park, the Polytechnic Institute of Research and Innovation in Sustainability (Inspires), or the Agri-food Research Unit of the UdL in the development of innovative and multidisciplinary research projects.

We are looking for highly talented early-stage researchers willing to develop their research career at the Institute. Pre-doctoral researchers will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative research projects in a stimulating multidisciplinary scientific environment under the supervision and mentoring of our group leaders.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Research Project / Research Group Description:

This study is designed with the overall aim of investigating the relationships between the inhibited-disinhibited personality (ID) and emotions. Inhibited and introverted subjects tend to develop negative emotions, whereas disinhibited subjects and extroverts tend to develop positive emotions. Personality and emotional development interacts with different psychopathological disorders such as depression, anxiety (negative emotionality), and lack of impulse control related disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, addictions, and personality borderline and antisocial type disorders (positive emotionality). The limbic system, especially the amygdala have been identified as key structures in the induction and regulation of emotions. The results of fMRI studies indicate that the prefrontal cortex (PFC) is involved not only in the induction of emotion, but also in emotional regulation. The prefrontal lobe has been associated with cognitive functions. The general aims of this study are: 1) Determining the interaction of individual differences in personality on the perception and regulation of emotions by the observed changes in peripheral activity and the prefrontal lobe; and 2) Determining the effect of individual differences on the influence of emotions on executive tasks by the observed changes in the activity of the prefrontal lobe. To achieve these goals, a broad sample will be used of about 1,000 healthy subjects in order to select those with extreme scores (approx. 20% of the total sample) in the inhibition and disinhibition dimensions as measured by a battery of personality questionnaires. There will be peripheral (startle response and electrodermal activity) and central (prefrontal lobe oxygenation by fNIR) activity recordings. There will be four experimental studies: 1) Influence of ID personality on the perception of emotion; 2) Influence of ID personality on explicit emotion regulation; 3) Interaction of ID personality on the interference of emotions in working memory; and 4) Interacction of ID personality on the interference of emotions on people trained in executive tasks. It is expected that differences in ID traits will influence perception and emotion regulation, these differences will unearth within peripheral measurements and prefrontal lobe activity.

Job position description:
The scholarship holder / researcher in predoctoral education would be part of our research group to carry out his/her thesis in the present project. Taking into account the characteristics of the project the researcher would collaborate in the selection of subjects and in the realization of the different electrophysiological tests that are carried out in the Faraday cage of the Human Behavior Laboratory of the Neurocognition, Psychobiology of Personality and Behavioral Genetics group.

The screening study will be conducted with university students. In the first part of the study, the candidate will obtain data from a large sample through an online procedure. The candidate will extract the personality profile relevant data from the protocol questionnaires (ZKA-PQ, I7, SPSRQ). The research team has experience in this procedure in previous studies. The sketch to follow will be the following:
1.-The preparations will be made to start the preliminary study for the selection of the subjects for 4 studies in the laboratory, which will include the adequacy of the online computerized application so that the campus students complete the psychometric protocol and get a brief profile of some characteristics of your personality as an incentive.
2.-The data will be processed to perform the calculations intended to obtain the psychometric index of Inhibition-Disinhibition.
 3-Additionally, a complete search will be made of the necessary bibliography.
 In the second part of the study, the candidate will proceed with the selection of subjects for experiments to be carried out in the laboratory. After the selection, the candidate will participate in the design of new tests and the clinical interviews of the experimental subjects as well as the analysis of the information to be obtained from them.
Finally, the candidate will proceed with the perform of the prefrontal spectroscopy registers (fNIR), electrodermal and reflex response activity experiment in response to modulation of emotions using images based on the personality dimension. The requested scholarship holder will participate in all task included subjects selection and electrophysiological records in the Human Behavior Laboratory.
